The implementation of highly developed information and telecommunication technologies brings new working methods into the office and results in radical changes in corporate structures. The impact of these developments on the office environment, coupled with an increasingly pressing need to reduce costs, has made the workplace a resource which needs to be managed strategically in order to be cost effective, both in terms of reduced administration costs and increased productivity.

Organisations, work-forces and office spaces are in continual evolution. It is above all the large and medium size firms who are leading the field in this process, adopting the model known as the "shamrock organisation". In this, the office layout must take into consideration a variety of working methods such as flexi-time, over-time, part-time, consultancy, team-work, telecommuting, training, research and even relaxation, meeting and exchange activities. A more compact, flexible "non-territorial" spatial model is emerging, in which significant cost savings (25-40%) can be achieved and personalised work-stations, accessories and stringent standards of hygiene and safety at work need to be defined.

As part of their professional consultancy services for corporate clients, Albera Monti & Associates have worked alongside leading manufacturers on the development new designs for the work place, including the restyling of office furniture for ICF, Tecno and Unifor. Studies also include the future of the office environment, in collaboration with Castelli/Hayworth, and stategic consultancy on the optimisation of work-stations for the head offices of Omnitel and leading banking institutions.
